Terms & Conditions
Effective Date: September 9, 2026
Last Updated: September 26, 2026
These Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”) apply to your use of the ICON Badminton website, your customer account, and our facility in Rocky View County, Alberta. Please read them — they explain what you are agreeing to when you book a court, register for a lesson, or buy a membership.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, making a booking or purchase, or using our facility, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or the facility.
2. Eligibility and Customer Accounts
You need an account to book courts at member rates, register for lessons, or manage a membership. Court reservations may also be made as a guest, without an account — see section 10 for how a guest cancels and what comes back.
- Provide accurate account and contact information, and keep it current.
- You are responsible for activity that happens under your account — keep your password private.
- One account per person. Accounts are personal and not transferable.
- We may suspend or close an account that is used for fraud, abuse, or to break these Terms.
3. Memberships
We offer annual memberships in three age-based tiers:
- Adult (18–54) — $60 + GST per year
- Senior (55+) — $48 + GST per year
- Junior (Under 18) — $48 + GST per year
A membership runs for one year from the date of purchase. If you renew while your membership is still active, the new year is added to your existing expiry date, so renewing early never costs you time you have already paid for. If your membership has lapsed, renewing starts a fresh year from the date you renew.
Membership gives you member pricing on court rentals and drop-in play, and every 10th racquet stringing free (string and labour included, with no maximum string value). Membership is not required in order to register for group lessons.
Unlimited Non-Prime Drop-In Membership
A separate monthly membership, billed by subscription. It does not require an Adult, Senior or Junior annual membership — it stands on its own.
- Unlimited Non-Prime drop-in (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM) is included in the monthly fee.
- It is a membership, so you also get member pricing on court rentals, Prime-time drop-in and other paid services. Those are not included in the fee — you pay the member rate for them.
- $59.99/month + GST introductory rate, limited to the first 100 members to join.
- $99.99/month + GST once the first 100 introductory memberships have been taken. If you joined at the introductory rate you keep it for as long as your membership stays continuously active.
Billing. Membership is billed on the 1st of each month. When you join part-way through a month you pay only for the days remaining in it, worked out exactly: the monthly fee divided by the number of days in that month, multiplied by the days left including the day you join. Your first full monthly payment is then taken on the 1st.
Your card is saved. To bill you each month we store your card securely with Square. Card details are handled by Square and are never stored on our own systems. You can cancel future payments as described in section 6.
If a payment fails, your membership doesn’t stop straight away — you have 14 days to update your card, and you keep access during that time. If it is still unpaid when that period ends, access is suspended until the balance is settled.
4. Membership Fees
All prices shown on this website are before tax. GST is calculated and added at checkout — see section 16. Membership fees are charged in full at the time of purchase.
5. Minimum Commitments
Annual memberships have no minimum commitment beyond the year purchased. They do not renew automatically — you choose whether to renew when the year is up.
The Unlimited Non-Prime Drop-In membership has a 6-month minimum commitment, counted from the day you join. This is a genuine commitment, not a target: the membership cannot be cancelled before it is served, and you agree to that when you sign up. Time spent frozen does not count toward it, so freezing moves your commitment date out by however long you stay frozen. Your commitment date is shown on your dashboard at all times.
6. Membership Cancellation
Annual memberships. You may stop using a membership at any time, and you may ask us to close your account. Annual membership fees are non-refundable and are not prorated: cancelling part-way through a year does not produce a refund or account credit for the unused portion.
Unlimited Non-Prime Drop-In. Once your 6-month commitment is served you can cancel yourself from your dashboard at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing month you cancel in — you keep access for the month you have already paid for, and you are not billed again. Before the commitment is served, cancellation is not available; if your circumstances have changed, contact us and we will do what we reasonably can.
7. Membership Suspension and Freezing
Freezing (Unlimited membership). You can freeze your Unlimited membership yourself from your dashboard, for up to 2 months in total. While frozen you are not billed and the membership benefits do not apply. Unfreeze whenever you like; billing restarts on the 1st of the month after you unfreeze, and the days you were frozen are added to your commitment date.
Suspension by us. We may suspend a membership where there is an unpaid balance, misuse of the facility, or a breach of these Terms. While a membership is suspended, member pricing and member check-in stop applying immediately. Contact us if you believe a suspension is a mistake.
8. Promotional and Grandfathered Pricing
We may run promotional rates from time to time. Where a promotion says an existing member keeps their original rate (“grandfathered”), we will honour that rate for as long as that membership stays continuously active. Promotional pricing and opening offers may change before launch, and promotions may be limited by date or by number of participants.
The Unlimited Non-Prime introductory rate is limited to the first 100 members who join. Places are counted as they are taken: once 100 memberships have started, the introductory rate is no longer available, and a place does not become available again if someone later cancels.
9. Court Reservations
- Courts are booked in one-hour blocks, from 8:00 AM with the last block starting at 9:00 PM (11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday).
- You can book up to 7 days in advance.
- Same-day bookings close 15 minutes after the block starts.
- Member rates are $20.00/hour Non-Prime (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM) and $35.00/hour Prime (all other times), before GST.
- Non-members pay 20% more — $24.00 Non-Prime and $42.00 Prime, before GST.
- Friday and Saturday from 7:00 PM to midnight is our Club Social, Smash Into the Weekend. Courts stay bookable through it at the Prime rate.
Courts are held for the block you booked. Please arrive on time — we cannot extend a block into someone else’s booking.
10. Court Cancellation and Credits
Cancel a court booking from your account on the dashboard, or from the personal cancellation link in your booking confirmation email. What you get back depends on how much notice you give, measured against the start of the booking:
- More than 24 hours' notice: 100% of the court fee you paid, before GST, is returned as account credit.
- Within 24 hours: 50% of the court fee you paid, before GST, is returned as account credit, and the remaining 50% is kept as a cancellation fee.
- A booking that has already started, or that you have already checked in for, cannot be cancelled online.
- These percentages apply when you cancel. If we cancel a booking, everything you paid for it, before GST, comes back as account credit instead, whatever the notice (a guest booking is refunded in full to the card, GST included) — see section 27.
GST is not returned as account credit. The court fee you paid is what you paid before GST, whether by card, with account credit, or both, after any promotion or discount. For example, a court with a $20.00 fee is charged $21.00 ($20.00 + $1.00 GST). Cancelled with more than 24 hours’ notice it returns $20.00 of account credit; within 24 hours, $10.00. When you spend that credit, GST is charged as usual on whatever is left to pay (section 18). A booking that cost you nothing returns nothing, and if part of a booking has already been refunded to your card, the credit is limited to what has not already been returned.
If you have an account, what comes back is account credit, not a refund to your card — see section 18.
Guest bookings. A booking made without an account can be cancelled using the personal cancellation link in your confirmation email. Because there is no account to hold credit, the same percentages above are refunded to the card you paid with instead — a percentage of the full amount charged, GST included — and normally appear within 5–10 business days. Keep that email: the link is the only way to cancel a guest booking yourself. If you have lost it, contact us at info@iconbadminton.ca or 587-437-3562 and we will help.
11. Group Lessons
Group lessons are sold by the term, not by the individual class. One registration buys every date listed for that class and day, as a single bundle, at a set price per class. Class dates are listed explicitly at checkout and skip statutory holidays. Payment is taken at the time of booking and your place is reserved once payment completes.
A place is not held before payment, and a class that is full cannot be booked.
12. Lesson Cancellation, Credits and Missed Classes
Before the term starts. Cancel from your dashboard more than 24 hours before the first class and the full price you paid, before GST, is returned as account credit. Cancel within 24 hours of the first class and the amount paid is not credited.
Once the term has started. A term registration cannot be cancelled once the first class has taken place. If you cannot attend a particular class, report that class as missed from your dashboard more than 24 hours beforehand and that single class is credited to your account at your own per-class rate, before GST. Reporting a class with less than 24 hours’ notice, or not attending without reporting it, means that class is used and is not credited.
Classes not yet paid for. A missed class is credited only from what has actually been paid for that registration. If a registration has not been paid, a missed class is not credited and does not reduce the balance owing — pay the balance first, or speak to the front desk. Credit for a registration never exceeds what was paid for it.
Private lessons are paid at the time of booking. Cancel more than 24 hours before the lesson for account credit of the full lesson price, before GST.
Lesson cancellations produce account credit, not a refund to your card. GST is not returned as account credit. If the enrolment you cancel gave another paid enrolment on your account its sibling discount (section 13), the credit is reduced by the part of that discount that relied on the enrolment you cancel, never below $0 — this does not apply when the club cancels. That amount then counts toward the discounted enrolment, and comes back with it if it is later cancelled, refunded or has a class credited.
13. Sibling Discounts
When lessons are booked for more than one person on your account, an automatic sibling discount is applied as each lesson is booked. Each person is ranked in the order below:
- First person — full price
- Second person — 20% off
- Third person — 50% off
- Fourth and each additional person — free
Who is ranked. The discount follows the lesson profiles on your account. A confirmed enrolment for a lesson profile counts, whether the profile is a child’s or your own lesson profile, where your account has one. A private lesson you request for yourself without a lesson profile of your own is always charged the full lesson price and does not count toward the order.
Order. Lesson profiles are ranked by when each first had a confirmed enrolment on your account that still counts (see Who counts below) — the first profile confirmed pays full price, the next receives the second tier above, and so on. An enrolment is confirmed once it is paid (by card or with Account Credit), by e-Transfer or at the front desk, or once the club confirms it for you. The order is not based on age, on the order profiles were added to your account, or on when a lesson was booked or reserved.
What it applies to. Group-lesson terms, single group lessons, private lessons, and Programs such as camps and clinics. For a Program sold as a package, the discount applies to the package price, which is shared across the days of the program.
Who counts. A lesson profile counts toward the order while it has at least one confirmed enrolment with a price on your account that has not finished. An enrolment finishes after its last class, lesson or program day — it still counts on that day, and stops counting the day after; where no class date is on record for it (mainly older bookings), it keeps counting. Creating a profile, or booking or reserving a spot that has not been paid for or confirmed by the club, does not give it a place in the order. A booking that is free — because of this discount or a promotion — does not count on its own. A paid enrolment stops counting once its whole price has been credited back to your account or refunded — for example because the club cancelled the lesson — unless the club has confirmed it; a partial credit, such as one missed class from a term, does not change this, and if the club later takes such a credit back, the booking counts again. A profile whose confirmed enrolments have all been cancelled, refunded, credited back in full or have finished no longer counts, and the profiles after it move up for future bookings. Until a profile counts, its bookings are priced after every profile that does.
When the price is set. The price of a booking is fixed once you have paid for it; booking or cancelling for someone else later does not change it. If you cancel an enrolment that gave a paid booking its discount, that booking keeps its price, and the credit for the cancelled enrolment is reduced by the part of the discount that relied on it instead (section 12). Until then — a lesson booked to pay later, a term or program the club enrols you in, or a booking that is free because of this discount — its price follows your family’s current order, and can go up or down if the order changes before the class, term or program ends. A free booking that later carries a price is added to the amount owing on your account. Where no class date or full price is on record for a booking (mainly older bookings), a lesson booked to pay later follows the order until it is paid, and any other such booking keeps the price it was given.
14. Drop-In Play
- Member drop-in: $15.00 Prime, $10.00 Non-Prime, before GST.
- Non-members pay 20% more.
- 10 Prime-Time drop-in passes can be bought as a pack for $120.00 + GST.
- Drop-in passes do not expire and may be shared or transferred.
Pay Later / Outstanding Drop-In Fees
If you choose Pay Later for an eligible drop-in, the applicable drop-in fee will be added to your ICON Badminton account as an amount owing.
You may have a maximum of three unpaid drop-in fees at one time; the current maximum is always shown in your account. Once you reach this limit, outstanding amounts must be paid before another Pay Later drop-in can be added.
Outstanding amounts may be paid through available online payment options or at the front desk.
Choosing Pay Later does not waive or reduce the applicable fee.
15. Payment Terms
Card payments are processed by Square. Card details are entered directly into Square’s own secure payment form and are never stored on or handled by our servers.
For a subscription membership we store your card with Square so the monthly payment can be taken automatically. You are told this before you pay, and you can stop future payments by cancelling as described in section 6.
We also accept Interac e-Transfer for account balances. An e-Transfer is not confirmed until our staff have received and verified it, and a pending e-Transfer does not hold a court or a lesson place. Please include the reference code we give you so we can match the payment to your account.
16. GST and Applicable Taxes
Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so GST at 5% is the only sales tax that applies. Every price shown on this website is before GST; GST is calculated and added at checkout, and is included in the total you are charged.
GST is never turned into account credit. Credit from a cancellation or a missed class is the before-GST value of what you paid (sections 10 and 12), and when you spend account credit, GST is charged on whatever is left to pay (section 18). A refund to your card returns the GST charged on the amount refunded.
17. Refunds
For an account holder, our normal remedy for a cancelled booking is account credit rather than a refund to your original payment method, on the terms in sections 10 and 12. Memberships are non-refundable (section 6).
The one routine exception is a guest court booking: there is no account to credit, so a cancellation made through the link in the confirmation email is refunded to the card that paid, at the same percentages set out in section 10, GST included.
If you are charged in error, or a booking fails after your card is charged, contact us and we will put it right — including a refund to your card where that is the appropriate fix.
18. Account Credits
- Account credit is applied automatically when you pay online for a court, a lesson, a term, a camp or program, a drop-in pack, an annual membership, or your lesson balance, before GST is calculated; GST is then charged on whatever is left to pay.
- Account credit is a before-GST amount. Credit returned for a cancellation or a missed class never includes the GST you paid.
- If you pay more than you owe (for example by e-Transfer or in person), or pay part of a balance, the money that is not used to settle a charge is held as account credit at its before-GST value: $105.00 is held as $100.00 of credit, which pays for $100.00 of bookings before GST — the same $105.00 once GST is added.
- Account credit does not expire.
- Account credit has no cash value and cannot be withdrawn or exchanged for money.
- Account credit is tied to your account and cannot be transferred to another customer.
19. Facility Rules
Please follow posted facility rules and the directions of our staff. We may ask anyone not doing so to leave. Use courts and equipment for their intended purpose, and report damage or hazards to staff.
20. Indoor Shoe Policy
Indoor, non-marking court shoes are required at all times on court.
- Shoes with black soles are not permitted — they mark and damage the court surface.
- We may refuse court access if appropriate footwear is not worn.
- We do not provide rental shoes, for hygiene reasons — please bring your own.
21. Check-In and Attendance
Check in at the front-desk kiosk when you arrive by scanning the QR code on your digital membership card. If you have a court booked, scanning checks you into that booking automatically, with nothing further to pay and no drop-in pass used. Attendance and missed bookings are recorded on your account.
22. Minors and Parent/Guardian Responsibility
A parent or legal guardian must create and manage the account for anyone under 18, provide their information, agree to these Terms on their behalf, and is responsible for fees incurred on that account. Please make sure a junior participant knows the facility rules and has appropriate footwear and equipment.
23. Personal Property
Please bring your own racquets, shoes and equipment, and keep your belongings with you. We are not responsible for loss, theft or damage to personal property brought to the facility.
24. Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability
Badminton and related activities involve inherent risks, including but not limited to slips, falls, collisions, contact with other players or equipment, muscle or joint injuries, and other physical injuries.
By entering the facility, using the courts, participating in programs, lessons, events or other activities at ICON Badminton, you acknowledge and voluntarily accept these risks and agree to participate within your own ability and physical condition.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to release and hold harmless ICON Badminton Inc., its directors, officers, employees, coaches, contractors and representatives from claims arising from your participation or use of the facility, including claims arising from ordinary negligence.
You remain responsible for determining whether you are physically able to participate. Please advise coaching staff of any medical condition or injury that may affect participation and seek medical advice when appropriate.
25. Conduct and Safety
We want ICON to be welcoming for everyone. Harassment, abusive or threatening behaviour, discrimination, unsafe play, and being under the influence of alcohol or drugs on court are not acceptable and may result in removal from the facility.
26. Suspension or Termination of Access
We may suspend or end access to the facility, your account, or a program where these Terms are broken, where conduct puts others at risk, or where fees remain unpaid. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
27. Service Interruptions and Court Availability
Courts may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance, repairs, private events, leagues, tournaments or programming. Where we have to cancel a booking you have already paid for, we will credit your account for it in full: the whole amount you paid for the booking, before GST, comes back as account credit, whatever the notice, with no cancellation fee. A guest booking we cancel is refunded in full to the card you paid with, GST included. If part of a booking was already refunded to your card, the rest is returned. If we cancel a class, the credit is applied when we cancel that class date: each paid registration is credited that class in full, at its per-class rate before GST. If we cancel a paid private lesson, what you paid for it, before GST, comes back as account credit, whatever the notice. A booking or class that has not been paid for is not credited. A group court hold arranged with our staff for a club, league or event is settled with its organizer directly: if we cancel one whose fee was already paid, our staff arrange the refund or credit with the organizer.
28. Website and Account Availability
We aim to keep the website and booking system available, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. Booking, payment and check-in depend on third-party services (including Square and Google Firebase) that may occasionally be unavailable.
29. Privacy
How we collect, use and protect personal information is set out separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.
30. Electronic Communications
We send booking confirmations, cancellation and credit notices, membership updates, and other messages about your account by email. These are part of providing the service and are not marketing. If we send optional promotional email, it will include a way to unsubscribe, as Canadian law requires.
31. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as our services change. The current version is always posted here with an updated “Last Updated” date. Where a change materially affects your rights — pricing, cancellation or credit rules, for example — we will give notice or ask you to accept the new version.
32. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the applicable laws of Canada. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under Alberta consumer protection legislation that cannot be waived by agreement.
